I have been practicing yoga since 1998 and teaching since 2002. My teaching approach to my ADULT CLASSES considers an eclectic mix of various styles of yoga and my own creative ideas from the last 20 years of practicing and teaching. With an exploration of vinyasa styles of yoga, meditation and consideration to your lifestyle I look to find a yoga practice to suit all in my classes.
I’m a Senior Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance Professionals now. However I initially trained to be a yoga teacher from 2001 to 2005 with the British Wheel of Yoga. I completed four years of training to obtain The British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Course and The British Wheel of Yoga Teaching Diploma with Gill Boag-Munroe. I certified as a Yogabugs children’s yoga teacher in 2006. In 2019 I completed The Science of Teaching Yoga to Athletes through The Institute of Yoga Sports Science.
In 2015 I completed a week long Intensive Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series and Techniques Course. Ashtanga Yoga sometimes influences my own yoga practice. However I very much free-style with my own creative vinyasa's, hence my term ‘Accessible Ashtanga’ (see Workshops/News section). I have been taught by UK based and worldwide movement and breath-work specialists and teachers of yoga. Some workshops/intensives include Continued Professional Development days related to many aspects of Yoga, Philosophy, Pranayama, Meditation, Movement, Yoga for Athletes & Sports People, Anatomy, Sports Science, Children’s Yoga etc.
As well as working with other teachers I am very fond of self-study/practice (Svadhyaya). After all no-one knows you as well as you know yourself! Becoming your own teacher is much fun and full of exploration, independence and creativity. Exciting times as my self-practice has evolved again ... you’ll have to watch this space as I find ways to self-manage our lifestyles (inclu. sports, injury and ailments) via techniques and ideas from my last 20 years of teaching, learning and exploring!
Regards the workshops I create and deliver they can be viewed on the Workshops/News section. They include cross-training ‘Yoga for Athletes’. These workshops consider your specific sport (cyclists; runners; tennis players; footballers; hockey players etc.) at your chosen venue.
So with a background in the Visual Arts I create imaginative sequences (vinyasa's) and meditations for my ADULT CLASSES and fun yoga adventure stories for my CHILDREN'S CLASSES. After obtaining Yogabugs certification I have been teaching children of all age ranges (3yr olds to sixth formers) and abilities ever since in schools and many other venues throughout Staffordshire. I create and deliver yoga adventure stories, ‘Sharlene’s Yoga-Little’, for recreation or to compliment the national curriculum.
I also write and deliver my own yoga workshops, retreats and write articles for the yoga press (including OM Yoga & Lifestyle Magazine, Spectrum and Yoga Voices). See Workshop/News and the Article section for further information.
